MEET YOUR GUIDE

Yasnir Salazar was born and raised just a few kilometers from the lodge in an indigenous community where economic opportunity is scarce. He grew up hunting and fishing in the area and started his career in tourism doing odd jobs at the lodge.

Over the years, he learned to captain the boat and lead tours to Cano Island. Based on the smiles and excitement from anyone who went on an excursion with him, it was evident that he could become one of the top guides in the area.

His upbringing gave him a deep knowledge for the forest, and his positive attitude made him a natural guide. By working at the lodge, he was able to save up for his guiding certification and now he is one of the top-rated guides in Corcovado. Yasnir lives onsite, although he spends many nights at our overnight camp.

Why We’ve Shifted from Corcovado National Park Tours to Our Exclusive Biological Reserve

At the Jaguar’s Jungle Lodge, we’ve always prioritized giving you the most authentic, intimate rainforest experience possible. After careful reflection, we started focusing on our private biological reserve: an exclusive, serene immersion into a pristine ecosystem with no rigid rules, no trail closures, no other tourists, and a personal connection every step of the journey. At Jaguar’s Jungle Lodge, you’re not just visiting a park—you’re entering a hidden world of wonder, guided by experts who share your sense of discovery. This is the deeper, more personal rainforest adventure you deserve right next to the Corcovado National Park.

Here’s why we made the change:

First, we were at the mercy of an outdated, inefficient permit system. Getting a spot was unpredictable and frustrating. Guests were often disappointed by the lack of availability if reservations were not made many months in advance.

Second, the park logistics are a nightmare—guests had to wade into boats on a beach with frequent swell, risking injuries, while park rules created constant tension. We want your focus to be on wonder, not frustration. Armed guards ensuring you stayed on the trail hindered our lodge's goal: to connect you with nature.

Thirdly: By getting our guests into the forest earlier, we maximize their chances to see wildlife when animals are most active, ensuring a quieter, more uninterrupted connection with nature. By skipping the boat ride and the arduous station check-in, where guards search your bags for single use plastic, you enter the forest earlier than ANY Corcovado tour while birds and wildlife are still active.

Fourthly: The animals don't know borders! We have the same flora and fauna in our biological reserve and accredited arboretum! We have the camera trap footage to prove it. On our trails you won't be kicked out or yelled at for straying off-trail to get a better photo. Your granola bars won't be confiscated. And you won't see another tourist! Our trails are literally on the border of the national park.

Instead, we’re proud to introduce exclusive guided hikes in our private biological reserve—a lush, protected sanctuary that borders Corcovado. This forest is home to the same incredible wildlife, but without the crowds or logistical headaches. Starting November 1st, 2026, every guest stay includes this guided hike—no extra booking, no hassle.

To keep your experience seamless and stress-free, we do not allow outside tour agencies. In our experience, they create confusion around pick-ups, drop-offs, and itineraries—plus, they promise more than they can deliver. We’ve chosen to include this adventure to have control of your safety, comfort, and wonder.

We’re excited for you to join us and discover the magic of this untouched corner of the world—just steps from Corcovado, but entirely yours.

CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK

Exclusive guided hikes included with every stay starting November 1st, 2026!
